Coolant/dying issue

So I was driving my 3g and It died when I stopped at a stop sign and Then again at another stop, so I was putting it in neutral and keeping the rpms high enough to keep it alive, then started getting steam dumping from hood so pulled over and I looks like the radiator cap busted halfway off and sprayed coolant on the engine. I let it cool and tried making it home but I couldent get it going because as soon as I turned the key and tried keeping it alive the car was shaking and sounded really bad and was having a hard time staying alive at 1500 rpms so I parked the car and left it there and hoping some one can give me insight. 2000 eclipse gt auto trans

Should look into why it overheated so much that the rad cap blew off. A failed head gasket could cause that, and would also cause rough idling/no idling at all possible due to coolant seeping into 1 or more cylinders. You'll also have a lot of gasses coming out of the radiator from the exhaust mixing into the coolant. Any white vapor out the tail pipe?

Didn’t see any but I’ll check that when I go back to the car. Man a head gasket would really suck

Along that line... take a look at your oil on the dipstick...see if there is any sign of coolant in it. You can also look at the coolant bottle to see if there is any sign of oil in it.

I filled radiator with water and started it no smoke out tail pipe and I did think to check dipstick no signs of coolant and drove home it got a little hot but that’s it. Car has brand new radiator (how it was when I bought it a few weeks ago) so I’m thinking they blew head gasket got oil in the cooling system had to get new radiator and got rid of car ASAP and I’m the victim kinda feel dumb for not catching it and now that I think of it when cleaning engine bay I saw residue in bottom of coolant tank so im pretty sure head gasket is blown but tomorrow I will drain cooling system and maybe oil too and see what I can come up with.

Washed spark plugs is another sign. Can check those. Ones burning coolant would be cleaner looking.

Could be a bad water pump or bad thermostat. Does your coolant flow through the radiator?

Was also thinking could be thermostat. What’s easiest way to make sure coolant is running through? I’m not really sure it is I think the radiator is clogged and pressure built up and that’s why rad cap popped because temp wasn’t reading hot when that happened

So oil is getting in radiator but no coolant/water in oil. Head gasket would cause both to mix correct? Would oil pressure be higher than coolant so coolant could never get to oil? Hopefully this doesent mean the head is warped?
