The first year 4G (2006) had a few problems that were mostly sorted out by the next model year. 3Gs seem to have more in the way of aftermarket and parts are cheaper, so that's advantageous if you're on a budget. Also, given the choice I'd much rather have a 3G GT than a 4G GS, but that's just my opinion. If you can spring for the 3.8, go for it, it's a helluva engine.

If you buy a 3g your pretty much buying a dodge stratus, But upgrades are plentiful and cheaper then 4g parts! So it's up to you mang! I'm personally not a fan the body of the 3g without a body kit. But they are both pretty easy to upgrade(My opinion)

6G72 > 4G69 imo. If you can't decide on the car, let the motor make the choice for you.

DR3 has a spectacular aura about
The 6g72 isn't that reliable of a motor. It's always had lots of problems compared to the 4g69 motor. Look at the 3000 GT they're always having some type of engine problem. It's rare for a 4g69 to have any problems. Plus it's a preferred to use it especially if you are going turbo. Evos being the greatest example

+48hp and +43tq are a fair trade-off for a little added maintenance. If you treat a car well, it'll last.

In any case, there's no replacement for displacement. There's nothing that a turbo'd 4G69 can do better than a (properly built) turbo'd 6G72

The 4G GT is much faster/more powerful than the 3G GT. As for mods, the 3G probably has a little more in the way of go fast stuff, but in terms of potential, the 6G72 (3.0) can't match the 6G75 (3.8).

I respectfully disagree...when Thousands of people have seen with there own eyes that many many cars out there with a single turbo 4cy can run a 7-8 sec quarter or even run close to the same times Many cars in Colorado even outrun v8 twin turbos that run constant 7-9 secs on the street or track yes maintenance is important but current valve/engine technology is also a must too!

If you want more power (bigger motor) great but more weight which in some cases is great but it's not all about the power you got..... its all about power to weight ratio and grip and getting from A-B the quickest and im sorry if I salted any open 3g wounds you may have but they are terrible motors that should never have represented the eclipse legacy!

Not shitting on four bangers here, they can do some great things when properly built, just that you can more often than not make more power with a similarly boosted engine of greater displacement. If you want to run numbers, the later generation Eclipses have mostly been unbalanced cars, so an extra few pounds worth of engine won't upset the car anymore than it already is imo. I'd take the power + an extra degree or two of understeer any day.
