Are we likely to see a r22 replacement kit for our cars?

With the new federal mandate forcing r22 and from what I’m hearing r134a to stop production is there going to be a halfway simplistic way to upgrade to the new air conditioning standard? We’re fine for now since freeon is on every shelf but in a few years that’ll be questionable. Feel it may make our cars bricks in places like Florida or desert states.

Well, it depends. Can R22 be used in an R134 system if the R134 is vacuumed out?

It would make millions of AC units non functional, including in residential use to not have a refrigerant that was cross compatible with R134 compressors.

If it's not, then I'd guess no, you won't see a 4G eclipse specific kit come up, as it was one of the worst selling cars in North America of the era.

Update: R22 can NOT be used in an R134a system. It will not work, then it'll break the system. You would need to update to an R22 system, mounting a compressor built for it in a custom way.

This is exciting news for racecar builders! But bad for people who keep AC intact (mine is gutted out of the car)
