Installing Fender Flares... help?

Planning on installing some fender flares to cover up some bumps and bruises on my baby! Was hoping you guys would know that if there’s anything by the gas tank that would prevent me from screwing them in with self-tapping screws. It seems thick and don’t want to mess with my fuel system and spring a leak by drilling into it! Hahaha hope the pics help. Area of concern is where my hand is.
