We have a Petro Canada here that ups its price by about 6c every evening for the rush hour traffic. He's right on the main road into town too

But my timing belt just snapped. I should still have had 20,000 before I need It again. So, here comes a new motor for the beast.

Gosh, you say it so casually. I'd just scrap it and put the money towards something else.

You're on the top of the leader board, WOW!!

Sorry to hear you lost your engine!!

I'd like to hear more about your car's experience, that's a ton of miles. We all know that ever car has its little problems as it gets older, what if any kind of problems have you experience?? Any other major breaks, broken parts, failures, things to look out for, ect. This information would be greatly appreciated for Club 4G members and I.

You've clocked enough milage to have driven to the moon (on it's closest approach), and close to half the way back to earth. The round trip would be ~442,500 miles.

First post ever, I have an 06 eclipse gt sport (Daily driver) Great car ran it from 115,000 to 160k. Problem is, the motor just blew, I did skip out on the oil change for about 400miles, recently because of financial issues. I'm thinking about replacing the engine. Also saving up to replace the clutch, just for safety

Welcome to the club Matty! I have a hard time seeing just the engine oil being the cause of an engine blow though, so don't feel bad.

Hmm... You sure the timing belt just didn't break... Same thing, it'll destroy the engine.

I have an 06 GT with 155k miles. The clutch has been replaced, which is the only major work I know of. I need to replace the timing belt soon but the engine runs very well. I have a CAI and exhaust. Thinking of putting headers on soon but I have been told it may not pass emissions.

160k miles on my '06 GS. It's certainly a bit high but I bought it with the miles on it, got a good deal for it though. Still haven't put any on myself, quite the project it is.

73k miles on an 06 gs just bought it a month and a half ago. I'm new here and glad to see how long they've lasted all of you! Off topic question my gears aren't shifting as smoothly as I like should I swap out my tranny fluid?

Mine is a 2011 GS automatic @ 208,000KM ....

Timing belt changed at 188,000 and recently just had my catylic converter clog and the cause turned out to be the honeycomb part of the valve is breaking away causing it to clog. End result.... had to replace the manifold. Done and back on the road... lots of power but doesn't feel exactly like it did back in the day, and proly never will again with its age and KM's now.... if only they still made Eclipse's cause I would consider a brand new one off the lot one of these years in the future cause I love mine so much.... but for now I'll drive this car til it physically cannot drive no more lol

I've never had valve adjustments done before.... is that much work or $$ and is it something you guys think I should consider?

Thanks!

How long will my eclipse last?

I bought my 07 Spyder Gt. 4mo. ago with 133,000. One owner all factory serviced since new. Owned by a woman who kept it in a garage. Runs great. Have all the records. Should last 250, 000+.

Mitsubishi Eclipse 2007 - GS 2.4 (Regular non convertible)
Bought it used at 290,000 KM
Now it is 305000 KM
Engine sound is so loud
I am the third owner
It is so good in snow unlike a lot of new cars , saw them slip in front of me , but this is a monster

Gas tank need to be changed because of rust (Cost between 450 to fix to 800 to buy a used one)

Engine valve cover need to be changed
Strong smell of gas and exhaust
Broken stabilization bar link
Rusted 4 brakes and worn out

The total fix cost around 1500 CAD, should I do it , or just sell it as is and invest in a new car ?

It is still working fine

It sounds like the previous owners neglected the car quite badly, likely parked it on a lawn too.

It's odd the valve cover would be bad and not just the gaskets. There's no stress on it.
Gas and exhaust smell is an exhaust leak, it also gives the sound.
A sway bar end link is about $20
Max Performance will sell you all new pads and rotors for about $230
A used gas tank is about $50.

If you have to let a shop do all the work, it's iffy. But you are getting absolutely fucked on those prices.

If the underbody isn't rusted out, just fix it. And if the timing job isn't recent, do that too.

Thanks for your reply. I agree that previous owner completely neglected it not because he is a poor person, he is a doctor but cheap and care about money more than anything else in his life!

I honestly don't know, all these information was provided to me by speedy Auto, and it sounds a complete rip off to me

I am not good into mechanics, If you know a good mechanic and or body shop that can fix these things with the prices you mentioned, I don't mind traveling to London, you are not that far from me. right now I am in Mississauga

I just broke 64k on mine and it's been rock solid. I think though you should be trying to find the guys and gals who are through two timing belt services and find out how it's treated them. Most shitheaps sold today can get to 100k without any major drama, it's when you roll over that number and you're completely out of warranties is when you have to start worrying about repair bills.

That depends on how much you like the car. If to you it's just a daily driver and you're not enough in love with it to drive something else, then I'd probably just sell it once a big maintenance is due and let the next owner deal with that repair.

However, if you were in a situation where you had to replace the car and the only thing you'd consider is another Eclipse, then it really doesn't matter how much it costs to fix something; better to live with the devil you know than the devil you don't. If you own the car outright, you might end up replacing a fully owned free-and-clear vehicle with one indebted to the bank, which would be another reason to keep what you have.

Me personally, I've had mine for five years now, put the most miles on it over any prior owner, and have all of my maintenance history. I love the car and am willing to pay for those repairs and maintenance as they come, but I also recognize that this is no longer a good car for my daily commute. Premium gas is expensive, synthetic oil is expensive, the timing belt service is difficult to shadetree, expensive to pay a mechanic to do, and more involved then just replacing the belt because you really should replace any wearable parts if you have to crack the timing cover at all so you're not doing it again in a year or two. I intend to keep my car and am upgrading it for autocross and drag shenanigans, but I'm also going to buy myself the cheapest, most run down piece of shit 4 cylinder S10 I can find and make that my daily, because they're good on gas, cheap to repair even if they've been grossly neglected and would actually lower my insurance premium by insuring both with the truck as a daily vs just the Eclipse.

Probably the only time to keep this car and pay for repairs is wrong, is if you have to replace a major drivetrain component and can't do it yourself, or if the car has been totaled by your insurance and you want to keep it roadworthy. You can buy a replacement Eclipse without either of those problems for less than a repair.
