Hood Struts - Redline Tuning

Just installed hood struts from Redline Tuning and deleted that nasty looking prop rod from under the hood.

They are listed here: Redline Tuning Mitsubishi Eclipse QuickLIFT System - Lifts and holds your hood without prop rod.

I got the standard "Hood Quicklift" kit, but you can opt for the "hood Quicklift Plus" or the "Hood Quicklift Elite". Looks like the difference is the finish on each one. The standard Hood Quicklift system looks nice, and works well.

You get everything here except the rivet gun. 8 - 3/16" rivets, 2 struts, 4 brackets, and an outstanding set of color illustrated directions for your car. I spent some time putting 4-5 coats of grey primer on the brackets, these were unpainted on delivery.

Great aftermarket buy, as far as I am concerned. The finished product:

I still need to see how long these things last, but for now, I love them, and if Redline Tuning sells anything else for our cars (I'm about to go look), I will buy it!

Some other install pics. I'd do a How-To but the directions that ship with the struts are too good.

You make these marks on masking tape on the car. The one on the fender is exactly 12.5" from the corner of the hood. The mark on the hood is exactly 23" from the corner of the hood. These hash marks will line up with the pegs on each of the 4 brackets, that the struts snap on to.

This rubber hood bump stop sits exactly where the fender bracket needs to go. So IT needs to go!

10mm socket and 15 seconds later, GONE.

This is the hood mounted bracket.

Are the mounting brackets any different on the Elite? Did you use screws or rivets to attach them?

If needed to remove the hood do these have a way to release besides drilling out the rivets and re-riveting them?

Yeah the same clip thats on the trunk struts is on the redline ones. All you do is lift up on the clip and pull this will release the ball from the socket.

These look good, since their unpainted you could get that color match paint in a can. Make it look like it came from the factory haha

I have a kalapana black eclipse and the level 2 struts (one step down from the silver ones) flow perfectly with mine. I cant imagine painting the skinny part of the strut would go well though since it constantly rubs whenever you open the hood.

Yeah, that would be a bad idea. The paint would wear the seal out and then they wouldn't stay up.

would these work on a fiberglass hood? if they are too strong it might crack my hood trying to push it down.

when u open your hood the immence power of the struts will rip your fiberglass hood off the hinges and send it flying approximately 30ft in the air.

the epicness of it is worth the money. i say buy them

I'm looking to buy these but how hard do they push on your cf hood? I know the cf hood is stronger and heavier than the fiberglass one (which I have). I don't want them to damage my hood...
