Fixed my squeal after 3 brake jobs
Yeah, you read that right . . . 3 brake jobs.
I had a squeal in my wheel area that was very intermittent. I have heard brake wear indicators several times but this sounded different. An internet search suggested that it was the brake clips chirping. I bought new clips for the front and rear.
My son was convinced it was coming from the rear so I started there. Well, the old brakes were shot and it was definitely the wear indicators. A quick trip to the auto store . . . "we only have the premium in stock for your car" . . . of course you do. "They come with the brake clips!" - Thanks but I already bought those . . . oh well.
I replaced the rear brakes and the "premium" clips. The clips were a bit short and rubbed the outside of the rotor. Damn! Took them apart again and put the clips on that I bought before. HORRIBLE SQUEAL! Took them apart and realized the clips were rubbing the sides of the rotor.
Ugh! Dug the original clips out of the recycle bin and spent 30 minutes scrubbing them to look like new.
Third time is a charm!

Ouch, sounds like a pain in the ass...
Is there any chance the rotors you have are wider than the OEM ones? Previous owner saying "good enough" by chance?
