so i decided to plasti dip my rims for 2 reasons, one because winter is coming and well is nice to make them last longer. second because i was bored of the color and didnt wanna get new ones.. so here is what ive done so far. will update once i add the black tomorrow... the lip is gonna be intense teal and the rest is gonna be black.. mate black...comment and add your wisdom and thoughts about the project.
this is my inspiration.
this is my rims before paint..
first coat...
after 6 coats of intense teal and trimmed cleaned out overspray from tires
tomorrow i will finish the project. sense it is my first time using plasti dip. i wanted to play it safe and let the teal cure for a day atleast. before taping for the black... to be continued
if you tape the teal plastidip it will leave a mark i dunno how you ganna pull it off nicely without lifting the dip good luck! my advice is on ur last coat peel the tape separating the teal and the black so it wont stick.
p.s i hope you did not dip your rotors coz its not good on ur brakes, hope you still have ur stock wheels so you can remove ur project wheels, its a lot easier for you to paint them when they are unmounted and you will avoid the paint runs.
yeah thanks for the tip.. as far as i know yeah the tape will come off on my last layer of black so ima take my time and do one wheel at a time,, so far what ive researched and learned is that it should be doable, but we will see.. i shall finish the project tomorrow. and no i dont have the stock rims,, and i live in an apt complex so i cant/ dont have the means to take those rims off, im sure it would of being easier doe.
final product.... murdered out and teal accent lip.. 4gen GT.
ok finally i got the final product on the wheels. took me a good 5 hrs. due to the intense taping and masking i had to do. but here it is. and the left over can of dip went to the gas cover, all emblems and foglights. also blacked out the tail lights and the spoiler thing. all murdered out.
boom... done dealskies, so again the hardest part was the masking and taping and once all tires were taped and ready i had to do. One at a time, so that my lines were smooth and such... well im happy with the results.
I am so ganna do a red and black this winter to protect my wheels! I am just amazed how you pull this off with the wheels mounted and not to mention ur first time. Im really happy it turned out nicely!
yeah man, i too was amazed lmfao, the wind was my worst enemy. done outside in a parking lot. didnt take the rims off, the masking of the line sucked balls. but at the end yeah im certanly satisfied..
and the red and black was my second option but once i saw the pic of that vett. i was like, mmmm ima do that
Wow, I saw the vette up there, and was gonna mention that it might only look nice because you know the car is expensive, because I couldn't imagine that style on the 4gs. but these actually came out really well. Good job man.
thanks man. yeah ima post bettter pics once i clean it all up.. and detail it.
these pics dont show all the work i did.. i smoked the tail lights, i blacked out all emblems and foglights, i did some of the trim as well because it was faded. the gas cap. so once is clean i will post better pics... 4gs is better than no Gs. ha
^ yeah im not sure about the clear coat or the glosiffier just yet.. ima see how long they last and such without it and then well worse case scenario ill just redo the whole thing and do it better
Before you do it on ur wheels atleast try it in a can or any small thing you can paint on then see if you like it coz you dont wanna messup ur hard work
I was gonna do that but the weather isnt helping. and i want to defenetly wash the car so it looks cleaner and better. once i get a chance i will post some more pics
