Hello everyone....
I have my daughters old 2008 Eclipse GS with the four speed automatic transmission. It is throwing OBD codes PO743, PO763, and PO768
These seem to be related to the solenoids in the transmission. I've never worked on an automatic transmission.
Anyway it only has Reverse and 3rd gear. It runs and drives fine just will not shift into overdrive, or I guess use 1st and 2nd gears.
the shift indicator light has the D flashing. Everything I've read says it's the solenoids. Do y'all know if this is the case? And how hard is it to change the solenoids? The car has 162k but is in good condition except for the transmission. Any help/advice would be much appreciated.

First off, pull the air box out of the car and check the wiring on to the transmission plugs

I’ll check the codes in the FSM for u and get back with u
Btw u said 4 codes but only posted 3

P0743 in engine module along with a P1778 in the transmission module will be “Torque converter clutch solenoid valve system” open or short circuit

P0763 and P1775 is “Second solenoid valve system” open or short circuit

P0768 and P1776 is “overdrive solenoid valve system” open or short circuit

U need a scan tool to reset the transmission module codes too which a generic code reader/parts store can’t do for u

That’s a malfunction of all of the solenoids being open or short circuit except the low-reverse solenoid and underdrive solenoid

Try the diagnostic checks of the resistance of the pins for the connector on top of the transmission with the instructions in the guide for each of the codes
Probably a good idea to disconnect the cars battery before trying this

Get an Autel DiagLink DIY to reset the transmission codes and see if they come back

Check the wiring for sure

I only had the 3 codes. You are correct about the condition of the solenoids you mentioned.
Plus PO768 says it is the overdrive solenoid. I will pull the air box and check the connections. I had read that advice somewhere but i appreciate you reminding me.
are the solenoids hard to change out. It looks like from the FSM that they are just under the transmission pan. And look pretty easy to get too. famous last words.
Are re-manufactured solenoids alright to use. A set of 5 on Ebay are about $60. I priced OEM ones and they are pretty expensive. But I'm just trying to get it fixed to sell. I have too many cars.

Once u pull the air box you’ll get a good look at the whole trans, check the level or the transmission fluid too! If it’s low maybe that is your problem, unlikely, but check

Yes the solenoids are behind the end cap on the trans, it might be possible to change them with the trans in the car, but I wouldn’t DIY it, I’d get a very good mechanic or dealer to take a look at it honestly

As far as DIY, wiring checks and checking the resistance of the pins on the transmission range sensor plug for the correct values according to the FSM, and getting a good full system scan tool to reset both the engine and transmission codes are as far as I would recommend DIYing unfortunately

Thanks for your advice pcfreak4. I think I'll take your advice and not DIY it myself. But I will pull the air box and take a look. I have a volt meter and a Innovo 3140 scan tool which has work on the car before. But I appreciate your time and trouble to answer this.
