Hello Everyone,
I have a Eclipse GS Auto that is due for its transmission oil drain and exchange at 168,000 miles 2.4 L I4. Carfax shows transmission fluid changes every 30,000 miles since new done at the dealership.

However, the transmission oil filter was only changed once at 36,365 miles. Would changing the oil filter and pan gasket at this mileage harm the transmission ? Would I only need to change the trans oil ?

Thanks

No, because the trans was properly maintained it should have plenty of life left in it

Old fluid loses lubricity, and the particulate floating in the fluid works like sandpaper, wearing away at components. Changing filter at this point would be a great bit of care to continue on with a long healthy life of that trans. It's probably in better shape than most 100,000 mile ones
