Hello,

Has anyone with a 2008 or newer body style Eclipse been successful having an aftermarket BSM installed in their back license plate? (Professionally or done DIY) Trying to decide, do I risk it or not??? I have a 2008 3.8L SE V6.

(Yes, I've read the threads regarding how to adjust mirrors, getting little added mirrors for side mirrors, etc. but I'd ideally like more than that.)

I recently have had conversations with a local reputable company that installs auto accents and such. Their typical approach is to put the radar sensor on the license plate and then I would have the little light-up indicators on each side pillar inside the car. It would be about $800 for the kit and the work to do it.

However, my concern is that our plates are so very recessed and deep into our bumper on an Eclipse, that I worry it may block line of sight.

The company is candid in the fact that they've never installed one on an Eclipse before, so their techs are not certain how it'll perform. They're willing to try, but they've put the skull and crossbones on it that they cannot guarantee it'll work the way I want it to. They would try to install it as far forward as possible (probably putting something behind it to push it out a little) in being mindful of the situation. They said they've done it successfully on another type of car that also has a rather deep plate (but not as deep as this).

The problem is, once the stuff is installed inside the car, it's in there for good or else it would leave holes. So I could be out 800 bucks and have crap installed in the car that does nothing.

Side bar: I spoke with another local company who felt confident they could do it (same method) and it would work, though ironically their price is $1,400.

Thank you!

I don't have a BSM installed like you are talking about, however I did just recently buy a rear view mirror dash cam with backup cam kit for my car and I am absolutely loving it. The backup camera has a 140 FOV so while I'm on the highway I can see all 3 lanes plus shoulders no matter which lane I'm in. This is also tremendously helpful with the blind spots because I can see cars on either side of me coming up from behind and by the time they are out of view of the camera I can see them in my side mirror &/or peripheral vision through my window. This kit was only about $130 & took me less than an hour to install, highly recommend. I can find the link for it later if you're interested !

Here is an Amazon link to the kit I bought. Right out of the box it worked well, however it did have some issues with certain headlights causing a large glare. I read through the manual it came with and found that if you shoot an email to their support team listed in the instructions they will send you a free upgraded camera which plugs right in to the existing wires from the first kit. I recently installed the new camera they sent & it does still have minor glare issues but is a huuuge improvement from the previous one. Set up is pretty straight forward too, good luck !
