Hello,
Has anyone with a 2008 or newer body style Eclipse been successful having an aftermarket BSM installed in their back license plate? (Professionally or done DIY) Trying to decide, do I risk it or not??? I have a 2008 3.8L SE V6.
(Yes, I've read the threads regarding how to adjust mirrors, getting little added mirrors for side mirrors, etc. but I'd ideally like more than that.)
I recently have had conversations with a local reputable company that installs auto accents and such. Their typical approach is to put the radar sensor on the license plate and then I would have the little light-up indicators on each side pillar inside the car. It would be about $800 for the kit and the work to do it.
However, my concern is that our plates are so very recessed and deep into our bumper on an Eclipse, that I worry it may block line of sight.
The company is candid in the fact that they've never installed one on an Eclipse before, so their techs are not certain how it'll perform. They're willing to try, but they've put the skull and crossbones on it that they cannot guarantee it'll work the way I want it to. They would try to install it as far forward as possible (probably putting something behind it to push it out a little) in being mindful of the situation. They said they've done it successfully on another type of car that also has a rather deep plate (but not as deep as this).
The problem is, once the stuff is installed inside the car, it's in there for good or else it would leave holes. So I could be out 800 bucks and have crap installed in the car that does nothing.
Side bar: I spoke with another local company who felt confident they could do it (same method) and it would work, though ironically their price is $1,400.
Thank you!
