So I have a 2006 Eclipse GS in Rage Red. For some reason on my fenders there are Chrome vents. I don't think they are real vents but I haven't investigated. I don't know if I like them or not...Did they come as an option from Mitsubishi or did the previous owner slap them on? No idea.. Not sure if i should plasti dip them or remove them. Just wondering If anyone else has a 4G with these vents on the fenders.. Thank you!
I uploaded a couple pictures to my profile, not sure if you guys can view it. I think I want to take them off because they look really stupid. I am just worried about ruining the paint in the process.
Well I just looked at your pictures and i have to agree. lol Take them off. If they are just the fake stick on ones a heat gun(Blow Dryer) and some goof off and floss should be your answer. Im pretty sure its similar to the same process of debadging. Im also not sure what adhesive is used on your chrome pieces. If you look up info on debadging you will find the easiest processes. http://club4g.org/board/car-care-detailing-shine/30675-debadging-my-eclipse-right-way.html
this might help you as well..
They look so wrong don't they? lol The previous owner was terrible to this thing *Face Palm* Thank you for the help and advice. Taking these things off this weekend!
Hey no problem.
Yeah make sure to post some pictures! Just take it slow with the heat gun. Patience is the key to a clean removal. I got sick of mine and when they got warm i just pulled them off with my fingers... Its not bad its just i think some of the clear coat came off with it.
I've been driving this car for a year with these things on..lol I have no clue why I didn't take them off Immediately. I will be careful for sure, my worries are that they have been on for years and the paint underneath will A- be wrecked or B-Have no exposure to fading so the paint won't math the rest of the panel which has had years to fade.
Yeah i don't blame you even the slightest for being concerned. If you go slow then even the worst paint on earth shouldn't come up with the car. But you will for sure have a ghost effect. Your car is a 2006? If so then i would count on it. But there is some hope. You can buff the spots and it might just come off pretty easily. Just keep us updated with pictures.
Well the fake vents are gone, took them off today. Used a hair dryer and a plastic scraper, and some goo gone. Happy the way it turned out! I managed to take it all off and not mess with the paint or clear coat. There is definitely a difference in paint. The vents must have been on for years. However it isn't too bad and hopefully after a good clean and wax it will be good. For some reason I cannot upload the pictures?? I took some after my victory lol
To upload pictures you need to make an account with photobucket. Once you do that you upload pictures to your photobucket album. Then you grab the url code for direct and copy. Then you want to make a post and at the top there is a icon of a mountain with a dot. You then click that and add the code you copied and there you have it.....
