So I shed a tear yesterday evening. My 06 gt purchased in 2016 had lasted me a total of 6 yrs. 2 of those yrs it just sat in the drive hasn't moved since. Alternator is killed due to door being a jar as the latch or electrical doesn't keep the door locked. I had it towed to a mechanic at Mavis auto. They call me up stating they got half way done with the vehicle and stopped. It's looking like 4,000+ needs to be thrown into it. Some guy at the shop will pay me scrap for it. It's sad to see this is our parting ways my eclipse and I. I almost feel it's being stolen from under me. It looks good on the outside but the outside isnt what matter. I live in upstate NY purchased the vehicle in 2006 with 100,000 miles. It now has 160,000 and they say I should just junk it. Sad Sad day. I think I need a hug or words of support to say this is the right decisions from our group. Thanks guys appreciate any input

What all is wrong with it? My experience from someone at a shop wanting to purchase a car is they think they can fix it for less and resell it to make a profit.

If it was sitting that long with a conventional car battery, yeah, it needs a new one, belts and maybe tires too, might as well throw in an alternator, fuel needs to be extracted and replaced. Can you post what they are saying needs to be fixed? My project car mainly sits for the last 6 years, granted, it is in a garage, it absolutely needs new tires and the fuel system needs attention (sticking injectors from ancient 93 octane), I think the greatest cost from this is either cleaning or replacing injectors, but it won't be nearly that much

So, what exactly was the issue? You literally just gave up your car without being given an explanation as to what that 4000 was going into? Okay.

The only things that were mentioned to be wrong is a door sensor that can be had for a few dollars and is 1 bolt to replace, and an alternator. The bad door sensor can just be unplugged. It'll drain the battery, which can put extra load on an alternator which can wear out a weak one about to die anyway. But overall, we're about $160 in parts so far.

Bro, I sincerely hope you didn’t sell to the mechanic.
Any chance they’re adding brakes, rotors, and calipers to the bill? Cuz you know, they’re rusty and probably seized… 🙄

2 years sitting? Pads yes. Rotors yes. Calipers are a maybe. My first car sat in a field for 5 years and it didnt need calipers.

Even still parts and labor should be well under 1k not 4k.

Wow that's some really sad news. I hope you had a wonderful time with your Eclipse.
I haven't came close to ever thinking about parting with my 06 Eclipse GT.
I don't know what the 4000 problems were but if you could have repaired them I feel like you would have felt better.
We a make choices we regret .
Hang in there.. Maybe you will come across another Eclipse..

I understand you my friend. Looks like "there is something" against our G4. Everything is so hard to find, to fix... I currently changing (already place it) the headlights assembly. What a pain in the ass. I don't want pay 300 plus for the work but...after 1 month with my car without the front bumper and the destroyed splash liner, I wish pay for the job a month ago. This car was put together on Chrysler platform... what heck everything its so hard to work on? Love my G4 and will stay with it until 200,000k but, sometimes.... Here in Texas we have the Air Check. They give 3500 if you buy any semi-new car. I did before with a old Ford Escort... when I bought my dream G4 2007 in 2010. It's a complicated relationship.

Its 4 bolts and some plastic clips to remove the bumper, and is pretty standard these days. I agree it's a stupid design, but it's the normal now.
