First thing, fix your shifter cable bushing. It's probably corroded at the trans and isn't allowing you to actuate the trans properly.

You can take it off, clean the rust off the shifter linkage and bushing, grease it, and put it back together. That should be the first thing to check any time a manual or auto car shifter doesn't want to move smoothly and freely into position.

Awesome, that's glad to hear.

I was researching ATFs recently for my wife's Mazda 3 Turbo, and found that Amsoil is one of the best for viscosity stability in cold. We see up to about -30c every winter regularly, and a lot of trans fluids hate it. So finding something that works well in the cold is important here (their manual gear oil, I've used in -30 at the racetrack in snow with no grinding or fighting me either, even on the first laps)

This is the one they have that is SP-III rated. The "fuel efficient" variant is NOT RATED for your trans. It is SP-IV, which is NOT backwards compatible.
