Is there a release clank on a 07 eclipse

I have been trying to open up my transmission however I am a little nervous about doing it because I feel there might be a release clamp under this little black thing on the top. Is there a clamp or am ok to open it up

Here's the service manual

When you remove that there's a spring clip inside you'll need to compress to get things to release. I honestly took mine apart the other way around, backwards. So don't have experience in doing it the "right" way
