Had my eclipse for over 5 years. I've changed the oil many many many times. I have always followed the oil level on the dip stick. That oil level happens to be 3q. For 50k miles I've been changing the oil with 3q because that's full on the dip stick, totally full. Car has 270k miles on it. Got it with 220k miles. Today I was curious on the actual amount and everyone is saying 4.5q is what im supposed to use and I'm "running it low" even though 3q is literally maximum on the dip stick. I put 4.5q in it now and it's way over the full line. Like way over. Picture I have provided is with 3q only. Anyone have any input on this? Oil pan is perfect shape.

You could easily have the wrong dip stick or tube. What's the handle look like
