I picked up my GT earlier this year. The previous owner, for whatever reason, has the GS 17" wheels and 215/45R17 tires on them. Obviously this is smaller than stock, which is throwing off my speedometer and mileage. For instance, the car shows 80 mph when I'm actually doing 71. I'm not going to invest in new rims since this car is a daily driver for the next couple years. Is there a way I can get new tires that fit the rim while retaining the overall diameter?

These cars came with a standard or optional wheel package. They aren't GT/GS specific. What does the tag on the door jamb say is supposed to be on the car?

225/50/17, as it says in the door, is the standard tire for the 17" wheel option.

My GT also had 17s. It's not that uncommon.

Thanks for everyone's input. You guys are correct, and I'm stupid. 17" is the correct wheel size (per the door). After running some conversions, those 215/45R17 tires the previous owner installed are 1.3" smaller in diameter than stock, therefore causing the speed difference.
