Lately, I have been seeing 2G Eclipses with some badass numbers on the Drag strips and on the road itself. Really didn't know if I needed to put this up in the Racing section, but does anyone think that in the next couple of years, that they will have 500HP GT Engine Swaps? I know that this probably sounds stupid, but I've been thinking about this subject for a while, and wanted to know what other people would say about it.

doesn't sound stupid.. man, you are a real dick...

it's probably not feasible, however it could happen, would just need someone with the drive and capability... and for the market to sustain such a thing..

i mean right now, i could sell you a custom engine, but it would have to be built from scratch. and it would take a while... and it would cost you like 5k...

Is it possible? yes of course. Is it smart for our fwd 4g? prob not.

Also, Your right, this shouldn't have been in racing. Eclipse performance would be the right place.

I'm sure a mod will move it.

Well, the reason I was thinking about it is, not only would it be a good idea, but a business could probably profit on it. Think about it: like you said 360jeepboy, Corvettes and Honda's have them, and I know that 2G Eclipses have them, so why can't our 4G's be as badass like the 2G's?

If there was a fully built badass 4G Engine build, it would have to convert the motor from a FWD to a RWD and come with a Transmission, drivetrain, rear end and possibly new axles, which probably sounds stupid from me since I'm not all that mechanical worthy, but no doubt it would make people buy more 4G Eclipses and fix them up. Along with this, Eclipses are one of the fastest import hatchbacks (whatever you want to call it lol) on the road today.

Sorry, maybe I'm over thinking about this too much

No offense but your Z gets smoked by everything thing, that is anything, on the road. Your on posting probation, go drink a beer and think about what you should post, before you post it.

I am shooting for 500 after my engine build is complete, supercharger w/ intercooling dialed in, and a 150 shot of nitrous...........so w/in the next couple of years....maybe....

The 2G platform is better, it has more potential, it's lighter, it's easier to get power out of.

Are there any 9sec/1000+HP 4G's?
No because nowhere has the parts and no one wants to have them custom made...if you build a 4g69 the same way why can't it get you the same power? It's easier because it has parts available. A 1000hp 2g has $15000+ into the motor. Same money can be done with damn near any motor. I didn't say it would be easier but can be done. It's just no ones done it yet. People don't have faith in throwing turbos on factory NA cars for some reason. If you're looking for 500-1000hp you're replaceing every factory part anyways but the heads and block. So what does it matter what platform you start with?

I thought our axles where bigger and tougher than evo axles. Its a known finding that when doing a 4g63 swap into a 420a that machining the 420a axles is better than using the weaker evo axles.

I'd have to assume our axles are better than 420a which is to assume they're better than evo.

BTW this whole spend 10k on a 4g thing is silly. You can get a built GS-t or a GSX for that price.

.... 1g is better than a 2g .....it comes with a 6 bolt and it's in a lighter car and most of them come with a 4 bolt rear!

I raced one back when I was stock he had full bolt ons and a tune i/h/e...intake manilfold...tb ...clutch...flywheels ..he had the track model and on the dyno jet he made around 280.....he doesnt really str8 line race but i talked him into it....we did a 60 roll and every time I shift he would pull like a fender so he was about a car in front .....I'd like to see him Try now with my headers on tho

our axles are massive.

i am shooting for 500whp by the end of the year. then next year will be the tranny rebuild, cryo gears and lsd.

gotta get my rods paid for, pistons ordered and heads done. everything else is already complete. i wouldnt worry about the crank. the only way we will know it's limit is when mine or joey's explodes.

Is there a company that could change the final drive? our gears seem like they will suck for boost!!l which will hold us back trying to put down good track times

#31 ·
dude, just run a bigger turbo at lower boost. something that doesnt spool until over 3500.

our motor makes too much torque already for 1st and 2nd. but 3rd, 4th and 5th are good. 6th is just a gas saver.

i would like to make 1st and 2nd a bit taller and just make sure everything is stronger. but even at stock ratios they arent bad.

#36 ·
nice rims in your avatar btw.

#38 ·
hahaha

#41 ·
well, thats what you get with 6 gears. if you are more into ONLY 1/4 mile runs then a 5 speed is the way to be.

#47 ·
We def need a tune for sure!! That is one of our main problems.

#49 ·
we have a tuner, it works perfectly fine. stop being cheap asses.

from what i can tell, by the end of 2011, beginning of 2012, there will be a handful of 4g's capable of creeping up to 500hp. i for one, plan on being one of them. taking a similar route as joeyb on the engine with forgerd internals, S/C, p&p and 3-way valve job (and cam).. and a healthy dose of juice. delta says they have the tested prototype done and will be releasing a head kit with cam weld and regrind profile, springs, retainers and valves to be released soon. do the trans rebuild as aforementioned by horse i.e. cryo treat, lsd, etc. (shepard racing). there are a few companies out there that make chromoly custom axles if you send them a stock core for specs.

it seems absolutely feasible to me.

i wouldnt be surprised to actually see all three platforms... nitrous alone, turboed, supercharged, combination of boost/nitrous or even high compression rebuilds with nitrous to start surfacing at least close to this goal now that forged parts are becoming available.

just keep swimming
