Sigh these past 2 days have just be so crappyy..so disappointed in my car :/..
Raced friends s2000 from a 60 roll..once i hit 5th gear i got a car lead on him...then later they were talking smack and said 40 roll..so i did&i lost by like 3 cars on a 40 roll..so i was disappointed..then like 8 of us went cruising to Syracuse coming from Utica NY..I lost to my friends mk5 GTI..stage 1 tune..dsg paddle shifter..&then i lost to a buddies Cobalt SS Turbo'd...&today i raced some guys 300C from a dig&a launch..dig it left me by like 4 cars off the start...&40roll he got half a car on me but as i was about to pass he hit the brakes..

Just so fed up with people bashing on my car, I technically paid 4k for the damn thing considering i sold my 98 eclipse for 3k and bought this one for 7k..Im trying to get a evo..if i can't sell this for 8-10k I will be getting headers, catback&a intake..hopefully helps me out..sucks not being able to mod this car so much :s...&budgets really tight now for a bit..

But yeah..I love my car but i want to go standard already&turbo..awd..deff want a Evo..

What this car really need, and has been missing the whole time it has been out, is a good tune. I don't mean just adjusting AFRs and Timing, I know that has been done, as I have done it. I mean getting into the computer and fixing the bugs, and yes it has lots of bugs.

After I put headers, intake, and TB on my corvette, yea it felt a little better, but after the tune it was a different animal. It would be the same for the eclipse.

If you want quick power that will help you walk all of the cars you listed, pony up for about a grand and a half on a bolt on wet nitrous kit and some safeguards. Jet it rich and run the 100 shot with colder plugs and octane booster. Sure you'll have to fill the bottle, but you will have power you never thought the car could have.

Yeah, our cars are niche cars. You really don't buy them because you want a super fast car. You buy it because it speaks to you. With my previous performance cars that I have owned, I caught massive crap from my local car community when I bought my Eclipse. Even though it is no where as fast as my S60R or GTO, I love driving it every bit as much. Enjoy your car, but if you want to race, get a better platform or fork over the mass cash to upgrade everything.

If things are tight now, they are only going to be tighter when you buy an evo. Just saying. Feel for you tho man. My eclipse is my DD. When I have the money I'm going the ralliart or Evo route also for my project car. But while I have my eclipse I'm going to make the most of it, and get whatever I can out of it.

My wife and I have talked about getting the Evo when this loan is paid off next year and her promotion comes down the line, but it bothers me that it's being discontinued. Evolutions have notoriously held their value a lot better than most cars on the market, but what about now that there's no future for them? That could change drastically, and that could decimate the aftermarket for them within a couple years easily. It may not, but would you buy stocks from somebody promising a cure for cancer? Sounds risky.

If you're in the market and you can afford the tag on an Evo along with the insurance that comes with it... you might want to invest a couple more dollars and shop an Audi S4 instead.

Most people have it summed up here, but I want to throw my 2 cents.

Don't be discouraged because you lost to those cars, as a turbo cobalt isn't something to mess with on a daily basis, nor the new GTI with retune, and the 300c's have a beefy motor. be happy you at least have the GT, and from the looks no modifications. YOu sound like you are in the pit with money, so keep the car, and when you get a few hundred dollars, get the CAI, the exhaust, then headers, and then miscellaneous stuff like stiffy, send the TB to proflow, then retune it and you will have no problem stomping out all these guys + more while still looking good

^^While I was writing my message, you were practically thinking the same way!! How odd is that?? /// To the OP: Is your car an A/T or M/T?? Besides, from what you said, your car is stock and you ran vs a bunch of cars that stock vs stock have a better Power to Weight ratio, the exception being the GTI, which modded can get a better ratio as well. Most of those cars costed more than your GT when new, with the exception of the Cobalt and the GTI, and probably cost more now. What I'm trying to tell you is that, in the case of the S2000 and the 300C, you raced cars a notch or 2 above your class, a modded GTI, which tune does wonders to it, and a cheap econo-rocket (the SS), which has 260 BHP and 260 of TQ on a body several hundreds of pounds lighter than our car. All while being stock?? You went to a gun-fight with a knife, don't be surprised by the results. Time to do some modding and get a revenge!! You were very brave or naive for racing all of those, but like the adage goes, "with money you can make anything go fast". Also check what Mr. Waterous said about getting a car from a company with a more stable financial future, like the S4, an E46 ///M3, or an 05 STi. Good luck with your decision!!

im just gonna say..you shouldnt of lost to the Cobalt SS/TC or the 300c...the GTi is a hit and miss, euro's can be nasty. Im gonna guess your a stock GT, thats why you prob got beat by the 300c or SS/TC

he shouldnt have lost to the ss/tc? they weigh 2900 lbs, the GT weighs 3500-3600 lbs, they make 240-250 whp stock, the gt make 230-240. they run as low as 13.4 @ 105 stock, the GT at best 13.7-13.8 @ 101-102...

Thanks for the numbers Evo. I still agree, those cobalt's aren't to be f*kd with, even with bolt ons. they are a tad lighter, and have the same hp/tq as the eclipse.

in the case of HAHA, your car is a beast, and should beat the ss turbo cobalt with light mods.

Now this is the BIL's car being dyno'd which makes 299whp and 283tq

Now here is the vid of us at the track...in theory he should beat me but i took him by 3 cars. If you go in with a i can beat him mentallity you can beat the odds. Mind you he's not a bad driver he has his tires dialed in the the the psi for best traction.

Best advice is too know your car and know your oppenant, know the strenghs and weaknesses.

Sell it-be done-quit bitching-game over
Lol

Pat you know I only cuddle with you

I am saddened now.

Cant expect much when going against V8's, Turbo's, and DOHC RWD cars that weigh a fraction of yours. Each of those vehicles are nasty beasts especially if done right. No one has ever spoken those words about our cars. Just remember that. But if u do yours up right, it will turn more than heads than all of those. Do like i do... dont race... Drive slow so the girlies can get a good look at you
Yeah all my car needs is to be lowered and it'll look that sexiest..I just wish it was a standard..&Girlies always stare :D

stock form, the GT is weak.

invest in an LSD, suspension, headers/intake/exhaust. you'll be amazed at the difference.

Keep in mind, the GT was built as a true "gt" car. it's a sporty touring car, not a sports car. it can hold it's own very well once you massage it properly.
