one is engine / crank hp,
the other one is most likely whp, after drivetrain losses... about 15% loss on FWD...

With a manual transmission, you lose about 15%, with auto, you lose 20-22%.

 

i have seen a few gs's put dow 160 + to the wheels bone stock 1 of them being KhaosTactics who lives about 2 minutes away from me

modded untuned there is no way ur gonna even b at 160 whp. fully bolted, some weight reduction, heat reduction and a flawless tune u can hit the 180 whp mark no problem.

 

how does weight reduction add HP

weight reduction does just that, reduce weight so that HP has less weight to lug around.

 

you do know way back when,medave dynoed 172 whp with just header,cai, pulley, and stock exhaust. i definitely gained power,no question.my piping is 2.25".

if a GS is 162hp stock, that's 135-140whp... intake, headers, exhaust can easily put you at 160 whp...

modded (depending on how heavily) and he clearly posted an auto in this thread, ur gonna lose some serious power.

Engine output (HP/torque) is measured at the crank. The final output at the wheels can be ascertained on a dyno but even then, the results aren't completely reliable, esp the Dynojet dyno vs the Mustang dyno.

Google up these kinds of questions. It's applicable to every car out there.

 

dyno numbers can vary greatly depending on the type of dyno they are gotten from. the bhp of the gs is 162. the auto kills your power, so 130 whp wouldnt be unusual to see on something like a dynojet or a mustang dyno depending on how they are calibrated.

 

Autos can also make dyno pulls difficult. On a manual, they will usually use third gear and hold it throughout the rpm range. Autos like to kick-down when you get on it, so getting the car to hold one gear can be difficult on some models.

 

but where ours has the slapshift you don't have to worry about that.

There is also some free rolling dynos where your numbers are way inflated and you put down near crank numbers a buddies galant put down 235 and at the crank it was supposed to only be 230 so thats a negative drivetrain loss lol gotta love some dynos

I don't see how any stock GS is making 160 whp with absolutely no mods... The dyno it was on must have been a bad one because I have a Magnaflow cat-back exhaust and an intake and when I dynoed it I was at 140 whp. The whp is always gonna be lower than it is to the crank but not just by 2 hp.

but i recall that some GS's with a bigger TB (I believe) actually lost some power because of the lack of tuning to account for it...

no fearlezz is not lying nor wrong, i remember khaotastics thread like it was yesterday, he used some crazy named dyno to pull on, and indeed laid down 160ish

regardless, the 160whp bone stock is bullshit. he needs to redyno using a mustang or a dynojet, something weve all used before. until then, i will call those numbers inflated due to a malfunctioning dyno.

 

a dyno is just like any other piece of machinery... it's only as good as the guy behind it and the info he feeds into it... and obviously, this one wasnt real' good !!
i'm sure i could get the local dyno guy to show that i'm making 450whp right now, but i suspect you guys wont believe me :dunno:

 

i know it was easier to get to 130 after the 120 mark with the gs tb with my previous mods over the gt tb.(i tested both).its a trade off between the two untuned...ill have to see now how it acts now since i have no restrictions in the exhaust.

stop arguing. That's Dino sheet GS 132 whp and 191.57 torque. The loss of transmission is 28 HP.

 

something isnt right about that dyno. that car makes 30 more wtq then the car does at the crank.
