Hey all, i'm in Ct. 32 years old. Nothing on my record anymore. I pay $168 a month. Full coverage with 250 comp and collision. I'm with progressive. I'm also a licensed insurance agent. If it makes a difference to anyone. Ratings for insurance are based off of many factors. Consider these:
Age,
marital status,
claims/violations/convictions license suspensions. (Suspensions can be counted against you for as little as 5 or has high as 10 years.)
The use of the vehicle. How far you drive to work.
The type of vehicle you have. The model. Trim package.
Your location.
Amount of insurance you carry. Sometimes your rate may be higher if you decide not to finance and carry liability only. (usually only newer cars)
How much business the company does in your state and what is their claim to profit margin.
Uninsured motorist ratings(how many people driving illegal)
general cost of living,medical
vehicle repair costs
general features and benefits of your specific insurance policy(if you're unsure call your insurance)
how reliable the insurance company is in their claim service (some outsource to save on premiums resulting in slower paid claims, shotty recommendations on repairs from claims adjuster, etc)

This is a short list. The rest gets technical and just not very helpful. If anyone has any general questions about insurance I'd be happy to answer anything. Just send me a private message.

Oh this ones been eating me for a long time now. How does your progressive snapshot system determine what is and isn't a good driver? The information on your web site is ambiguous and vague at best.

How does it determine what time of day is the safest to drive? What if I work the graveyard as a police officer, and I'm heading to work at 2am? How does it know that makes me unsafe?

How does it determine sudden stops are dangerous? What if I'm stopping because some jagoff in front of me ran a red light, or somebody forgot to check their blind spot before coming into my lane? Here in New Mexico it's part of the drivers test to improperly merge, how does it know I'm not slowing down to let some idiot in because it'd be safer?

Just curious. :D

im kinda curious about that too. and what is to stop me from plugging it into someone elses car.

They can probably read the VIN, since it's OBDII (the only logical possibility for something to plug in). But good thought though, I'm sure it's not entirely impossible to trick... maybe not for the average joe, but who knows.

with as much as a pain in the ass our cars with obd-ii it might be a trickable system. i know they say it can't cause your insurance to go up.

I had them. They have predetermined set times of what they think is the safest time to drive. Pretty much if its not between midnight and 4am they think its safe. Also I supposedly had alot of hard braking but I still got almost the Max discount of 30%, I got 25%.

If it works, it works and that's great. I just wish they had a little more transparency on what the criteria was; otherwise you're putting a lot of faith in a little thing, and I'll leave that to the Catholics.

While geico has had the best rates for my family up till now, they prohibit all performance mods (i.e. cai). If you are ever in an accident that is your fault, they can and (from googling the topic) drop your coverage on the spot. Although I've had nothing but the best experience with geico, I had to switch over to progressive just because of that fact.
