Hey guys, this may seem a bit dumb but my drivers side door speaker blew out and I'm trying to replace it. I took the pannel off this morning to see that (yet again) the speaker is mounted directly into a plastic bracket that bolts onto another plastic bracket. Do I have to get a replacement directly from the factory, cuz I can't find anything on the internet about ordering another speaker cluster.

Any help is appreciated, thanks.

i would assume you can unscrew just the speaker and replace it with one of similar size. Maybe someone who's done it can jump in on this. Crutchfield.com is good for picking speakers of the right size.

crutchfield lies. you have 6x9s in the door. if yours blew out id suggest upgrading. well worth it. and yes. speakers just un screw and plug your wires into the harness. tape them and your good to go. trust me

Rockford Fosgate is not what they use to be... at all. I'd go with Crutchfield and select some aftermarket speakers to run. They usually include all the accessories you need for free, like the bracket, wiring harness, etc. I recommend Boston Acoustics. Double the warranty and they are made with better materials.

Just make sure you get speakers that have an RMS comparable to the stock amp. Otherwise the speakers will sound like crap and you'll blow them eventually also by under powering them. You may even want to get a new head unit. But that's alot to just replace one speaker.

If you just wanna swap out the speakers and keep the stock radio... I'd go with these... Boston Acoustics S65RC 6-1/2" 2-way car speakers at Crutchfield.com

35w RMS so that should go nicely with the stock setup.

the reason why the rockford door speakers sound like shit is because of the oem hu.put a nice aftermarket hu on them and they will sound 100% better.mine are running off of my alpine 9887 with a 3 band cross over,a 5 band parametric eq,or if i choose, the 7 band eq.the factory hu is hard on door speakers because you cant fine tune it.

this is the reason why people are blowing the door speakers.and unless you're going to amp the door speakers, then a top of the line hu will do.ive had just my door speakers bumpin before and i was vibratin shit in my garage lol.with my aa havoc 12,i dont need the door speakers for bass even though they do put out.and i have the plastic cone door speakers ftw.

edit:and im talking about the front door speakers.the rear ones suck no matter what.when you are running a sub in the rear, the rear doors speakers will cancel out some bass as long as you're not listening to a heavy bass track.the only time i fade in my rears is when the bass starts to overcome the fronts

in my opinion I would buy component speakers that include a crossover and tweeters and replace the 4 front speakers instead of the 6x9's. sure you might get a little more bass out of them, but the clarity in the 6.5 components (if you have RF, or brackets) will be sex

it really comes down to personal preference.

I read a test that showed oval speakers (6x9) typically have a shorter lifespan than a 6.5. you also have more choices with 6.5

I would also dynamat (or similar product) your door panels while you are in there. that will help greatly improve the acoustics in the car and make those speakers sound 10-30% better

can anyone who replaced theirs tell me the RMS on the RF edition of the car for the front speakers? If you have the information can you go ahead and tell me the RMS for all of the speakers? My front speakers sound busted and my sub makes a slight rattling sound now. I was looking to replace the whole audio system but I think it will be sufficient to just replace the speakers and sub. What really good speakers can I put? I don't want to purchase some really nice speakers and have them underpowered with the stock RF head unit. I have a spyder 2008 btw, Thanks!
