This is where it will start and end, hopefully to the point where I can turn the key and drive it. Please save your criticism for the end I've heard it enough in the past, " You should have bought a GT." Those comments are not welcome here, if you do have something nice to say or a suggestion during the swap - then thanks, I would love to hear it.

I will edit this post to reflect parts obtain/needed and cost, so keep checking for updates. I'll be updating it a little later with parts I know I'm going to need. I will start Post # 2 with pics of the motor that was picked up today.

Absolutely! Get it out of my garage! I don't know the exactly mileage off the top of my head, but it is low. I'll let it go for $20, plus shipping to you from 13760.

nguyen is a vietnamese last name that when pronounced sounds like "win"

So I said "nguyen nguyen nguyen" It would be pronounced like "win win win"

get it? lol
HA! and that's how I was pronouncing it, but still didn't click... ddddrrrrr

Kudos Trevor for your first drive. Looking forward to see more videos.

Will do after work tonight for ya

Dayum, thats crazy!!
^I Know, right? Trevor is one of the most highly skilled mechanics we have in the stable here at c4g, and we're lucky to have him at our disposal. as I've said/posted before, I don't want to think about what my car would look like w/out his assistance.
Aww, thanks guys, I'm always glad to help :bigthumb: and I'm no different from most other members on here, just passionate about what I do, and try to do it to the best of my abilities.

At the dealership right now getting the ECU initialized and coded for the correct VIN. I'm hoping for positive things. Exhaust gets welded tomorrow!

#364 ·
Trevroar, How did the ECU Programming work out?

#365 ·
Not good, they attempted to do the work but it failed, then they told me I had to buy a new ECU and ETACS (immobilizer) module, and they still charged me $100 when it seems they knew it would not work.

I did get the exhaust all welded up, and it sounds awesome with the magnaflow catback system, but things went bad quickly from there. While the exhaust was getting welded, we noticed a leak on the rear cylinder head gasket :( not a major leak, but something that needs to be redone.

Then, while I was enjoying the sound of the new exhaust on the way home with the top down, I caught the smell of anti-freeze. Looked under the hood and the radiator had two leaks in the core.

So I have a new radiator on order, which should be in mid week. I'm working with Michael (Hackish) on getting by the immobilizer issue now.... just really trying to stay positive!

#366 ·
^well, guess you can't expect a major project like this to not have a bump in the road or two, but it sure does hurt when it costs money for new parts and all, or when it comes unexpectedly like the ECU issues. well, keep pushing forward and I'll do the same, and we'll get there eventually I do think.

#367 ·
That's bs about the ECU. Was it a dealership? An keep your head up, almost there!

#368 ·
Thanks guys..

Yes it was at the stealership. They said I can use the ECU, but you need the immobilizer from the donor car to go with it, then its a matter of coding the keys.

#369 ·
that sucks trev, Always something to expect when working on a vehicle. Always expect speed bumps. But, I'm sure hackish will get it figured out. And I'm going to eventually order a new radiator also. Cracked it when tightening the lower hose clamp so it tries to leak, but not very much.

#370 ·
Here is what is going on at the moment. I'm currently working with Hackish (Michael from uvtune.com) He got me connected with his software using my friends tactrix cable to scan the GS ECU and the GT ECU. I sent the readouts to him, so now he has the task of deciphering the immobilizer codes, and configuring a flash for the GT ECU to either bypass it, or incorporate it. Hopefully all will go as planned, and I'll be turn key with the swap.

Fingers crossed!

Been frustrated lately, I have employed Hackish to resolve the immobilizer issues I'm having and its been days since I've heard from him, but staying positive.... ugh... very aggravated.

I did however get the new radiator installed, not many pictures of the install, but an easy job anyone can do.

If you look close you can see the two leaks spraying out. I did the old "egg in the radiator" trick to plug the holes. Worked great! Drove 200 miles with it like that and no leaks.

And once I removed the radiator, this is what I thought of it

So today is the day! I heard back from Michael and Brent at uvtune, and they advised my reflash, with immobilizer delete, has been completed. I was told they will "try" to get the file to me today, so I'm super stoked! This is the last piece of the swap, and I can proudly report that it is complete - as long as the flash works! I do have some odds n ends to finish up, but car will be driveable and I'll focus on modding it from here on out (most likely will start a new thread).

#376 ·
Oh yea, I almost forgot to mention. When I can get by the immobilizer and get the car running and take it out for a drive. I was popping code p0305, misfire in cylinder 5. So after hours of checking for leaks, faults in the engine harness, swapped coils and spark plugs...... I finally found the problem. Turned out I had a pin in the ECU that was pressed down and not making a connection with the terminal. I pulled it back up with needle nose pliers and resolve the problem. I thought my car was sounding wrx-ish at moments... Its so much better than before running on all six cylinders!!! Thing is a beast for sure

Problems keep coming.... and coming it seems..

First attempt at installing Hackish's Flash, wasn't able to do it, I had an older version of the software. Hackish got back to me with the correct version.

2nd attempt at flashing software, appears that Hackish wrote a tune for the wong ECU. He is going to check on this tonight and get back to me...

Hat's off to Hackish! That man is one busy dude, and I should have been a little more patient with him than I was. But he made good things happen with his knowledge/skill of ECU tuning. Hackish, if you read this - THANK YOU!

With that said, today I am officially "turn key" with my swap! And the thing is freaking awesome! I cannot stop smiling. Like I said above, I do have some odd and ends to button up but the hard part is over and the actual swap is complete!

From here on out, it will all be about modding, I'll most likely make a new thread. I'll get some actual videos up and some pics... sorry I couldn't share alot of "first" time videos... but I'll try to make up for it.

I'm going to add final thoughts to the first post of what I have think of the swap... I'll answer the question "Was it worth it" "Would I do it again" for you guys.

Well, I'm off to do some driving in my GS6!!! Catch you guys later!

Congrats Man!

Hats off to you good sir. I am honestly shocked that you made this happen. Must feel amazing. Hackish is a good dude. I'm currently working with him and I will vouch he is one of the few genuine people in this world. Congrats again man!
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING MAN. You have my highest respect. Big time project, big time balls to even try it, big time skill to pull it off. You are the man. I bow the f*ck down, is all I can say. :worship:

don't know what I'd do w/ out your help w/ my whip, either man. you have helped/advised me countless times. COUNTLESS times. I don't want to think about what my car would look like w/out your help. there are many guys on here who have helped me, given me pointers, directed me toward useful threads, helped with style decisions, etc. etc. etc. - but VERY few who have done it as much and as consistently as you have. If I made a list of everyone who's helped and ranked it by how many times and how good the quality of direction was, you would be at the top or damn near it, I'm sure.

Anyway - can't wait to see some more pictures and a video of your transplant. So very cool. Mad props. Mad respect.
   Thanks guys

I must say, the torque steer of this thing is ridiculous - it is a battle to keep it in a straight line! LSD has got to be a must for a highly modded GT. My GS had no traction control interaction, which means I have to control all this power on my own.. but I think it makes my pulls a little faster than you guys with traction control.... hmmm
